Rhytidectomy
As we age and lose facial volume, the contour of the face changes, causing shadow patterns to develop while youthful highlights fade. You may notice that the skin and soft tissues of the face and neck start to descend, resulting in excess, loose tissue around the face, jaw, and neckline. To address this, a rhytidectomy, or facelift, can be performed. There are several variations of rhytidectomy. Dr. Hu performs both deep plane rhytidectomy and extended lateral SMAS rhytidectomy. After assessing your face and determining your unique needs, she will recommend the procedure that will best address your individual concerns. The goal is to essentially “lift up” these portions of the face and neck that are showing unwanted signs of aging.
Rhinoplasty
Rhinoplasty, which may be better known as a ‘nose job’, gives a new shape to an individual’s nose in proportion to their face. Rhinoplasty can enhance the appearance of the nose size or shape in many ways — by straightening a crooked nose, shaving nasal bones that create a bump on the nasal bridge, augmenting the nasal bridge, or fixing the nasal tip. Rhinoplasty is often also performed to help with nasal breathing. This is known as functional rhinoplasty. Difficulty with breathing can result from nasal trauma or a deviated nasal septum that’s been there since birth. One of Dr. Hu’s greatest passions is rhinoplasty surgery, and she has spent years perfecting the process. Dr. Hu performs both open and closed rhinoplasty and is also skilled in ethnic rhinoplasty.
Blepharoplasty
Dark hollows, excess skin and wrinkling, and bags underneath the eyes are only a few reasons why a blepharoplasty may be performed. Blepharoplasty, or ‘eyelid surgery’, corrects or repairs concerns of the upper eyelid (upper blepharoplasty) and under eye area (lower blepharoplasty). There are several approaches to blepharoplasty, especially lower blepharoplasty. Dr. Hu performs both transconjunctival (incisionless) and subciliary (incision underneath the lash line) blepharoplasty and will tailor the procedure according to your aesthetic needs. There are additional procedures that tighten the outside corner of the eye and reposition the lower eyelid that may be beneficial. Dr. Hu is also an expert in Asian blepharoplasty, which creates a crease in an eyelid previously without one.
Brow Lift
A brow lift, which is also known as a ‘forehead lift’ or browplasty, aims to tighten or get rid of excess skin and tissues that cause the eyebrows to drop. Various types of brow lifts exist, but they all share the same goals: to lift underlying muscles and forehead tissues in a way that lessens wrinkles and deep furrows. The incisions for your brow lift will be designed specifically and individually for you, depending on considerations like brow symmetry and hairline. Sometimes, a brow lift is performed in conjunction with blepharoplasty, since there is overlap in the region that is treated. Dr. Hu will help make this decision with you during your consultation.
Hairline Advancement
Bothered by a receding hairline? It is likely hereditary or has developed with advancing age. Dr. Hu is specifically trained to perform hairline advancement, which is a powerful procedure that brings the hairline forward, restoring youth and vitality.
Lip Rejuvenation
The lips are a central part of the face that reflect both sensuality and character. Various lip rejuvenating procedures exist, such as the subnasal lip lift, V-to-Y lip lift, upper and lower vermilion advancement, and corner lip lift. These procedures are widely sought after due to their minimally invasive nature and permanency of results. Dr. Hu believes surgical lip rejuvenation is a promising field that will only continue to grow as focus remains on the lips.
Buccal Fat Removal
To address a ‘baby face’ or ‘chubby cheeks’, fat can be removed from the inside of your cheek hollows. Buccal fat removal, also known as ‘cheek reduction’, is performed through small incisions inside the mouth and aims to enhance your cheekbones and the contours of the jawline and face. This is often just a 30-minute, in-office procedure with almost zero downtime and immediate results.
Otoplasty
As one of the most prominent features of the facial area, the size and shape of the ears make a big difference in overall appearance. Ears that are too large or droopy or that have been damaged can affect the harmony of your facial proportions. Dr. Hu performs ear pinning surgery, which involves reshaping the ear cartilage with permanent sutures through a small incision behind the ear, as well as earlobe reduction and repair of ear lobes that have undergone tearing or other damage.
Facial Implants
If you desire a more projected chin, chiseled jawline, higher cheekbones, or more volume to the lower part of the face, facial implants may open up a whole new world of possibilities. Using state-of-the-art 3D design and printing, these customized implants are made specifically for you based on your underlying bone structure. Incisions are usually hidden inside the mouth, and results are immediate and permanent. For those looking for a more feminine or masculine appearance, facial implants are a promising route. Dr. Hu is one of only a few surgeons in the United States who is trained specifically in this specialty.
Nonsurgical Facial Rejuvenation
In recent years, neurotoxin and filler have seen an unprecedented popularity among people of all ages, and for good reason. Almost every part of the face can be contoured elegantly with filler or injected with Botox to prevent or efface wrinkles. Neurotoxin can give a sultry brow lift, subtly change the shape of your lips, and relax the lines on your chin or neck. Dr. Hu is expertly trained in the use of filler for every part of the face, including tear troughs, cheek bones, nasolabial folds, lips, and lines around the mouth. Dr. Hu also offers finesse liquid rhinoplasty, which gives the result of a surgical rhinoplasty without the downtime and long healing process. The results with filler can last up to 12-16 months, while neurotoxin usually wears off by 6 months.
Scar Revision
If you have a scar that did not heal well or properly and now plays a prominent role on your face, a scar revision may be the answer. Dr. Hu performs a number of different procedures for scar revision that usually involves excising the current scar and rearranging the skin and tissues in a way that promotes ideal healing. The goal is to return the skin back to its original, flawless appearance.
Reconstruction after Mohs Surgery
Skin cancer can be a devastating diagnosis, and even more so when the cancer is found on the face. Mohs surgery may result in a large hole in the skin. Dr. Hu is highly skilled at reconstructing these defects by artfully and meticulously rearranging nearby skin and tissue, with the ultimate goal of recreating the normal, preexisting facial structures and boundaries.
Gender-affirming Facial Surgery
Facial feminization or masculinization surgery includes a series of plastic and craniofacial surgical procedures designed to feminize or masculinize the face. FFS, the more common of the two, is ideal for trans-women and non-transgender women who want a more feminine facial appearance. These surgeries can reduce the size and shape of the forehead, alter and refine the nose, make the lips fuller and the cheeks rounder, decrease the chin’s size and shape and shave the Adam’s apple, among other effects. Transgender health care and surgery has been a strong fixture in Dr. Hu’s career ever since medical school. She has actively participated in facial feminization and masculinization surgery and is an expert at the many procedures involved, such as brow bone reduction and T-genioplasty.
