Is a Deep Neck Lift Right For Me?
It is a common misconception that advanced age is the only cause of a poorly defined neckline. Many patients have never had a contoured neckline, even from an early age. This is where genetics come into play. Indeed, patients in their 20s and 30s may be seeing the effects of aging of the neck sooner than their counterparts because of this.
If you have neck fullness obscuring the contours of your neck, specifically the cervicomental angle or transition point from the chin to the neck, you may be a candidate for a deep neck lift or sculpting. This fat is frequently stubborn and resistant to weight loss. You may have noticed that one of your family members has similar characteristics. There are additional criteria that Dr. Hu looks for. In general, patients ranging in age from 20-50, with little to no skin looseness or jowling, who are non-smokers, in good health, and with a BMI of 31 or under, tend to be the ideal candidates. Deep neck sculpting is exactly what it sounds like - Each tissue layer in the neck, which includes skin, fat, muscle, and glands, are addressed individually, to give a lifted and tightened neck line. The goal is to achieve a neckline that is flush against the underlying structures of bone and cartilage.
The deep neck lift is often performed in conjunction with buccal fat pad reduction for optimal rejuvenation. In addition to neck fullness, some patients have a more full or round lower third of the face, or what are referred to as “chipmunk cheeks”. This is in part due to large buccal fat pads. This procedure is performed to help slim the cheeks and face.
